14.12.2024 Excursion to the Mathematikum and Gießen Christmas Market
GWC embarked with a group of PhD students on a trip to Gießen. First stop was the Mathematikum, an interactive mathematics museum. The group was welcomed and led through the exhibition by Prof. Beutelspacher, director of the Mathematikum.
After the group headed to the Gießen Christmas Market, where they enjoyed the festive atmosphere, warm drinks and unique handmade gifts.
30.11.2024 Excursion to the Christmas Market in Mainz
On a sunny Saturday in November, the Goethe Welcome Centre and 15 international researchers visited the enchanting Christmas market in Mainz. The group enjoyed hot mulled wine, a wide variety of food, traditional Christmas sweets, and numerous stalls offering handmade gift ideas. They fully immersed themselves in the festive atmosphere and the historic old town of Mainz.
09.11.2024 Historic City Tour in Frankfurt
On Saturday, 9th November 2024, the Goethe Welcome Centre organised a historical city tour of Frankfurt for international scholars and doctoral candidates. Led by Mr. von Bothmer, the group explored Frankfurt’s key sights, including the Main-Tower, the Alte Oper, the historic Paulskirche, and the picturesque old town around the Römer. Mr. von Bothmer enriched the tour with fascinating anecdotes about Frankfurt’s history and culture, bringing the city to life for the participants. The tour concluded successfully with a relaxed meal at the Haus Wertheym restaurant, where the group could reflect on the day's impressions in a cosy atmosphere.
18.10.2024 Historic Campus Tour at 51 Westend Campus
On Friday, October 18th, 2024, we took a historical tour of the Westend Campus, delving into the rich history of 51 and its iconic landmarks. Did you know that the university was founded in 1914 as Germany's first university funded by citizens rather than the state? Or that its Westend Campus is located in a former headquarters of the IG Farben company, a building with a complex past? Join us next semester to uncover more intriguing facts about your campus and its remarkable history!
13.07.2024 Excursion to Opel Zoo
On Saturday, July 13th, we visited the enchanting Opel Zoo. The weather was sunny but not too hot, making it a perfect outdoor day. Everyone delighted in watching exotic birds fly from tree to tree, playful elephants catch carrots, and the cheetah napping. The atmosphere was cheerful and relaxed for all participants and their families.

The beautiful town of Bad Homburg is always worth a visit.
An old spa town, it is known for its healing mineral waters which can be tapped
from the many fountains in the spa park. With our guide, we also toured two
impressive churches. Following the footsteps of Emperor Wilhelm II., we
discovered Bad Homburg's historical core.

08.02.2024 Poser pour la liberté: Round Table
As part of
the award-winning French exposition “Poser pour la liberté/Standing for Academic
Freedom”, The Global Office together with the IFRA-SHS/Institut français
Frankfurt organized a round table with researchers in exile at Goethe
University.
We heard
from Prof. Dr. Nataliia Medzhybovska, a postdoc researcher from Ukraine at the
Chair of Information Systems and Information Management, and Dr. Olesia
Zvezdova, also a postdoc researcher from Ukraine at the Dept. of Political
Science. From Turkey, we heard from Mehmet Mutlu, a PhD researcher at the
Faculty of Social Science, and Dr. Serdar Değirmencioğlu, a postdoc researcher at
the Institute for Social Geography. Finally, Prof. Dr. Aung Aug, a postdoc researcher
from Myanmar at the Department of Tropical Medicine and Global Health, joined
us as well.
We are
grateful to our speakers for giving a first-hand account of their (academic)
life in exile and to all those who came to listen.

6th, the Goethe Welcome Centre and the Foundation for Promotion of
International Scientific Relations at 51 invited all
international researchers and scholars at GU to the traditional annual New Year's
Reception at the guesthouse in the Frauenlobstraße.
